What Is FAT16?
FAT (File Allocation Table) is computer file system architecture now widely used on many computer systems and most memory cards, such as those used with digital cameras. It contains information about where on the disk the content of the files are stored.
FAT16 is an older version of the FAT file system. It is a 16-bit file allocation system. MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and some UNIX operating systems can use it. It is efficient, both in speed and storage, on volumes smaller than 256 MB. But it has a limitation with respect to the size of partitions it can handle. To maintain compatibility with MS-DOS, Windows 95, and Windows 98, a FAT16 volume should not be larger than 2 GB.
Wondershare Data Recovery can restore files from FAT16 file system.
